The Jeweled Fairies

Sat Sep 13, 2008, 10:34 PM
Sometimes whenever I feel like taking control of something completely (almost demonically), the most common remedy is the entrapment of beautiful magical creatures into crystal gems. (fairies had been the most common)
I search the web, Ebay, and jewelery pieces at home for the cut and shape of the prisons.
Surprisingly the plastic gemstones from the Disneyland gift shop had proven to bee a reliable model since the provide a full three-sixty view.

While I'm drawing my mind creates stories of the subject. How they lived, what had happened. What they thought. And why is was happening.
The resulting image held a reflection of what they felt. A sense of fear, remorse, and sadness of their betrayal before frozen forever in suspended animation of their crystal cell. (giving a new meaning to the phrase 'A picture is worth a thousand words)

A favorite was that the fairies were kept on an isolated cave or farm valley, away from the outside world after being driven out by deforestation, hunters, of the wrath of a terrible curse.
The few survivors flourished in their new home and had placed their complete trust on their watchful guardian. Humans and good magic users.
Little would they learn that their 'watchers' were actually 'inspectors'. Keen eyes prospectors that monitor the fairies until they reach the peek of beauty and perfection.
The leaders of the 'guardians' were in truth a band of crooked wizards, jewelers, and traders.
Once a fairy had been chosen she or he would be summoned to appear before the master protector. The reasons could be anything from an award, a grand opportunity, or a punishment, depending on the look of which the merchant wished to capture.
Since arrival the desperate creatures had placed all their trust in their protectors. Thus future generations of the refugees had been thought to believe in them at an early age. Which sadly gave them no reason to suspect the truth.
Once separated from the flock the chosen fairy is taken to be ' prepared' by designers and jewelers that cleaned, and sometimes garbed her of him in beautiful gowns and robes.
into a spirit circle, or a mold-like contraption by more modern procedures, the victim is set. on the pretense of transporting them to an enchanted place or to bestow a blessing ect.
Once the lie had brought the fairy's expression and energy to its peek the mages ignite the spell, forever sealing the fairy into a beautiful cut gemstone of any color imaginable.
The jewelers soon take the gems into their own hands, fashioning them into rich fine jewelry. And the merchants would later sell the fairies for a great fortune.
As for the remaining flock... they remain ignorant of the terrible fate that awaited them by their ' protectors'.
